An automotive battery isolator is a device used in vehicles with multiple batteries to separate them and prevent one battery from draining the other. This is especially important for vehicles with dual battery systems, such as RVs, off-road vehicles, and boats, where one battery is used to start the engine (starting battery) and the other is used to power auxiliary systems (house battery or deep-cycle battery).
